Permits
No individually-issued government trekking permit is documented for the Aru–Lidderwat leg, and the official J&K tourism listings for the Pahalgam–Aru routes state no permit requirement. Operators who run this trek list "passes and permits" as a package inclusion but name no issuing authority. In practice, carry a government photo ID. Pahalgam-area trails fall under the **Pahalgam Development Authority**, and some Kashmir routes require permission from the **local police station** (photo ID plus a medical certificate, one to two working days) — worth confirming at Pahalgam before you walk, particularly if you intend to continue beyond Lidderwat towards Kolahoi.

About this trek
The Lidderwat trek follows the Lidder river upstream from Aru village through pine and maple forest to the open meadow of Lidderwat at about 3,050 metres. The gradient is gentle throughout, crossing wooden bridges and grazing pastures used by Gujjar herders. Lidderwat is a popular overnight or day-trip destination in its own right, and also serves as the base camp for longer treks to Tarsar, Marsar and the Kolahoi Glacier.
